Ear Correction

Ear correction may be considered by anyone afflicted with ears that are too large. Surgical ear reduction is able to diminish size by one- third. Jug-ears or asymmetry are definitely eliminated.

An essential indicator when considering surgery is the patient’s discomfort and exposure to teasing with concomitant mental duress.

Jug-ears are a common imperfection. As early as the third week of pregnancy, a child’s auricle will grow at a 30° angle from the skull.

In the case of a child, the operation should be performed at 5 – 7 years of age to avoid psychological distress. At that age, the outer ear will have grown to approx. 80-90 % of its final size. The operation will not prevent the ear from growing further. Ear correction is feasible at any age.

The operation will expose the cartilage, remove or thin part of it, create the new shape and close the incision with several stitches.

Post-operation care:

A stiff head-bandage is applied, checked 24 hours after surgery and left in place during 7 days. The stitches are removed 7 days after the operation
